Hi, I’m Matt.

I’m a builder of systems, communities, and partnerships that deliver results. For the past six years I have served with the U.S. Agency for International Development, both overseas and in Washington, D.C.

In many ways, my career with USAID was about delivering change - from revolutionizing how the organization collaborated with the private sector, to transforming key sectors of Armenia’s economy. As USAID formally concludes its operations, I am seeking opportunities to apply my skills to new challenges and contexts.

My time with USAID started in the Bureau for Management, in an office that functioned as internal consultants to drive greater operational performance across the Agency.  This was a fantastic introduction to the organization, as my work required me to learn about virtually every Bureau and independent office across USAID. I took on a wide array of tasks, such as overhauling the design and analysis of an Agency-wide internal customer service survey; leading quarterly reporting to the White House on six key programmatic and operational efforts; and identifying solutions to improve USAID’s process to track and resolve allegations of implementing partners committing sexual exploitation and abuse. Recognized by leadership as a trusted utility player, I was tapped to serve as Knowledge Management Officer on a temporary task force managing USAID’s internal operational response to the COVID-19 pandemic across a global workforce of over 10,000 personnel.

Next I took an opportunity to join USAID’s Mission to Armenia in the Economic Growth Office. I threw myself into work across the portfolio, with programming spanning the agriculture, tourism, and high tech sectors; water and energy management; and economic governance. I helped forge partnerships with high tech companies, a wine distributor, and an online artisan retailer that allowed us to punch way above our weight and more effectively than traditional programming. One major accomplishment was designing the Mission’s next flagship economic growth program, a five-year, $25 million project that would strengthen economic governance, enhance the competitiveness of key sectors, and attract new investment to the country. I also helped manage $9.6 million agriculture activity which spurred the formation of diverse new businesses and unlocked $24.8 million cash and in-kind investments by grant recipients.

My on the ground experience in Armenia proved invaluable when I joined the Private Sector Engagement Hub in Washington, D.C. My work focused on transforming how USAID manages its relationships with the private sector, through standing up new institutions, championing culture change, and creating new technology solutions. Much of my time was focused on leading and institutionalizing a network of Global Relationship Managers for key corporate partners such as Google, Visa, and Starbucks. I also led the creation of a new Agency doctrine for relationship management, One USAID, giving the Agency a framework to understand how to be a good partner. In addition I was closely involved in the design and rollout of Compass, a Salesforce-based CRM system.

Currently I live in Krakow, Poland, with my wife and our infant son. Recently I have started volunteering at a local nonprofit, taking on several exciting strategic projects.
